The development on Roosevelt Island for the Cornell University Tech Campus is home to the spectacular Tata Innovation Center. The design of the 7-story facility is meant to spark connections between the entrepreneurial student base and world class tech-companies through serendipitous interactions and collaboration. The architectural form of the building supports this mission by providing shared central circulation spaces with a strong emphasis on openness. The facade is characterized by large wings cantilevering over the northeast and southwest corners, iconic zig-zig patterns with matching glass frit patterns to blend with the structural columns behind, and a dramatic inverted entrance wall at the convergence of the building mass. Erie’s ENVIRO|FACADESĀ® curtain wall adorns the unique structure maximizing the light flow into the facility and providing breathtaking panoramic views of Manhattan and the surrounding locale. Erie was involved early in the development process on a Design Assist basis to optimize the curtain wall facade to meet the program criteria and provide solutions to accommodate the unique angular geometry.
